Used during communism to imprison criminals and political prisoners, this building has been abandoned for the last 20 years, now hosting mainly cats and pigeons.
I've actually had the opportunity to enter the basement, allowed by one of the senior sergeants at the time. It consisted of several dirty and smelly concrete cells with rusty solid metal doors - what I believe to be referred to as solitary confinement.
The now public street this building is at used to be inside the military base. Ten years ago, while digging to lay new communication cables, workers discovered the remains of a dozen people. The local administration ignored the huge political and social problem and the workers simply chopped up the remains and continued on with their work. Today, almost noone is aware they are walking on the faces of (likely) communist regime victims.
The beautifully aged but grotesque entrance to the building. Cats slide in through the hole under the door.

Thank you. According to a person I've talked to, it is possible that the remains are from the period of the Ottoman yoke, when there used to be Turkish administrative buildings here (конак). So it may not be the doing of Communists, but of Turks.
