My vision when I first started taking photos was not to what I do now, I liked leaves and water droplets and raw images of the highest resolution possible.
It took loosing my camera to realize that I can do so much with what is already in my hand. IPhone photography is nothing new and many bloggers (including myself obviously) use it because of it's ease of transport, amongst other things. I had always dabbled in Photoshop, editing for an "unedited" effect, however, it took me working with lower resolution images to realize that the "natural" photo is never really natural, we are always trying to alter angles, adjust the frame, remove people etc. So I started playing with temperature. I have never been a fan of filters, they look fake and usually deter from the image.
For me I started creating a filtered look through temperatures, adjusting clarity etc. This made my images into a mixed process, there was the actuality of taking the images, then adjusting them into a rose toned theme. I feel like with graffiti too, there's this idea of harshness, like these are criminal in meaning, or that they are plain ugly. Putting a pink filter on top, for me at least, is challenging these ideas, these untrue associations with crime and violence, but also it's association with men, who are not the only ones doing street art. All these aspects about how we view street art challenge me as a photographer/artist. These are such public works, therefore they react with their environment so much differently than other art forms, this for me is why it is my favourite thing to photograph.
