I had shot film photos for years with my mum's old Pentax SLR but I really didn't know what I was doing. After working as a professional photographer for a few years with digital camera's I decided it was time for me to start learning how the old masters plied their craft. I bought myself a Mamiya 645 afd medium format camera and started going at it, and to my surprise I found that I really enjoy shooting film.
It's a really cool experience to be able to make photos on an analogue platform, to realize that the image you are capturing is being physically burned onto a strip of celluloid that is coated in a concoction of chemistry that reacts to light.
I have been going through some of my film photos and I think I'm going to do a regular post on Steemit relating to them, shooting film, how I learned to process and scan my own photos, and the general experience of learning the old school ways.
To start off with here are some photos I took using my Mamiya 645 afd, an 80mm f2.8 lens, and a roll of Kodak TriX 120 film. There's a little bit of everything here, from nature to street to a few wedding photos I took.
Hope you like them, and if you want to see more be sure to toss me an up vote and follow my Steemit posts!

Love the Pentax gear, old and new. I have some really old Pentax cameras with great lenses, most of them I got when I bought old pentax k-mount lenses on ebay, and they came with the camera. I use them on the Pentax k20 which is compatible with the old lenses. Try getting equivalent quality of optics for Canon that'll cost you a fortune!
Now I take most photos on my Canon EOS 5D MK II though, it's a whole different beast, because of the video capabilities and the 36mm sensor

My Grandpa used to be a photographer back in the DDr when Germany was divided. Like that he got some additional money and added photos to the local newspaper. Today I am using a Sony Alpha 6000 and everytime he sees how technology changed he can't believe it. Guess I should start repairing some of his cameras and go out...

Some really good gear came out of the old DDR, I still have some of the old Zeiss and Jenar lenses with the m42 mount - there is a cheap m42 to k-mount adapter and they work perfectly on the new digital Pentax DSLR. You can find a f1.8 prime lens for way under $100 on ebay

Shooting film is really enjoyable. If you can get yourself an old manual camera and learn how to use it you'll have a great time slowing down and especially waiting to see your results, I say go for it!

My Grandpa still has many cameras (one from Zeiss, too, I think). Does anyone know where you can repair them?
