One time I read a newspaper while floating on the Dead Sea

in photography •  7 years ago

It was kind of a funny story actually. We were traveling in Israel and we had met up with some friends to go see Masada and the Dead Sea. Along the way our friend Ingrid was explaining to us how important it was that she find a newspaper before we get to the Dead Sea because she wanted to get that iconic photo of her floating on the water reading a paper.

It was a photo that her father had taken years ago and it meant something special to her to get that photo, so she kept insisting to her husband Dan that they had to get a paper.

"ok, ok" he said "don't worry, we'll get one" as we passed gas station after gas station. The fuel in the car was getting lower as well, and she kept asking him to stop and get gas, and then we can pick up a paper too.

Long story short? Yeah, we didn't stop to get a paper, and ended up getting to the dead sea without one.

Ingrid was pretty upset because it's literally all she wanted to do there, and there were no papers to be seen. So Sabrina kicked into action and started searching around the people by the pools for someone who was reading, or had been reading a paper.

She came across this lady reading a paper but Sabrina can't speak Hebrew, the lady asked if she could speak french but no such luck. So Sabrina asked if she could speak Spanish, and sure enough they found a common language! Sabrina asked if we could buy her paper but she was already done with it so she just gave it to us :)

Problem solved, and we all got to take a photo of us reading a newspaper while floating on the Dead Sea!!

The Dead Sea was truly one of the most fascinating and incredible places I have ever been in my entire life, I highly suggest taking a day to visit if you ever get the chance.

Thanks so much @silviu93, it is truly an incredible place! Glad you like the photos :)

I wanna take the same photo like that..I am happy for her she finally get to take like her father. safe travel

Thanks @dexter-k This brought back memories of my two visits to the Dead Sea. I first went there by bus from Jerusalem in 1995, stopping at Ein Gedi. Then Ein Gedi was a just car park and bus stop. And I got the photo reading a paper while floating. That was in the era of film cameras of course.

I went again, in 2004 on a trip to Jordan. Unfortunately at this time there was a great storm and the sea was so rough it was hard to stand up.

The thing I remember most and warn other people is don't get the water in your eyes.

We have floated in the Dead Sea as well. So amazing! We were in Israel in December so we went from really cold rain in Jerusalem to swimsuits in the Dead Sea. Pretty interesting. Love seeing pics of Israel. :)
