Welcome back my Steemian friends to the part 1 of my NEW YORK DAY !
Today I arrived back in USA. I left with mixed feelings. On the one hand I missed home and my friends but on the other side I will miss the Statue of Liberty side, the good weather and all the nice people I met. As promised here comes the second part of my NEW YORK DAY . Hope you are excited. Please fasten your seatbelts!
We stayed a week in New York, some time ago. And since we had crunched the "Big Apple" to the full, we thought that it might interest you to discover our trip in pictures!
Here is the summary of the first day! We arrived late at night at JFK airport, via a flight from New York to XL Airways. We take a yellow taxi and cross the Manhattan Bridge. This is a first for us on American soil! And first shock: these big advertisements along the road that would make envy our traditional posters in 4X3. The game of lights, the night that encompassed the city, it almost feels like Robert de Niro in Taxi Driver. 🙂 We arrive in the Chelsea district, where we rented a nice little studio on airbnb.com. Tomorrow, a long day is waiting for us!
After a good night's sleep, we are in the streets of the city ... In broad daylight, everything is revealed: the great avenues, the cars, the bright yellow traffic lights, the skyscrapers, the sirens of police cars ... everything is there! It feels like a movie! We are in NEW YORK!
first purchase, vegetarian bagel to take a little energy and let's go !!! En route to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts (MET)! On the way, we meet the tragically famous Chelsea Hotel (for those who do not know, it is here that the companion of Sid Vicious, the bassist and singer of Sex Pistols, was assassinated).
Then, one of New York's most important landmarks is the Flatiron Building. We take the time to photograph this original building, in the form of iron, created in 1902. If like us, you wonder what the interior architecture looks like, we found the answer here!
We continue our journey by metro to reach finally MET! Amazing and gigantic place, it is one of the largest art museums in the world! It contains many permanent collections: the arts of Africa, Oceania, Asia, European paintings, Egyptian, Greek and Roman antiquities, American art deco etc ... In short, the museum collections field of art history! A tip: for a substantial discount on some of New York's museums and great attractions (eg Top of the Rock, Moma, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty ...) advise you to purchase the New York City Pass in advance on the internet! You will save money! Going back to MET, we visited the place in 3 hours but to really enjoy it and do not miss anything, it would take many days!
The collections are of quality and the sober scenography leaves all the place to the works.
The arts of the African, Oceanic and Asian continents are well represented! Real favorites for these pieces!
In the heart of New York, you would almost think you were at Versailles!
There are multitudes of objects that belonged to ancestral civilizations: masks, armor, tunics and astonishing statuettes ...
And yes, at one time, there was also a haute couture department to make weapons of war! 😉
The great room devoted to Ancient Egypt is impressive!
There are so many remarkable objects ... To keep as many memories as possible, we made thousands of photos!
Armor, flags ... The Middle Ages has not been forgotten either!
After spending a few hours admiring all these masterpieces, we leave MET and cross Central Park across its width to join the American Museum of Natural History.
If you are a fan of the actor Ben Stiller, it is here that the shooting of A Night at the Museum took place! It is a place that employs more than 1200 people and also finances scientific expeditions. Here are some hallucinating figures: 45 permanent exhibition halls and 32 million specimens and objects! A museum of which one of the specificities is to realize still lifes with great animal scenes.
Traditional masks of the most beautiful effect!
The lobby with the flora and fauna of Africa, magical!
The trunk cut of a giant sequoia and a mammoth skeleton ...
The space devoted to underwater life and its giant blue whale is original!
And finally the prehistory, life size !!! Same remark that for the MET, it is necessary to return several times not to miss anything so much this place is vast!
Then we took a break on the lake of Central Park, with its pretty boats as in Woody Allen's Manhattan film.
First observation, we already have blisters on our feet and we are a little tired! But the day is not over! Here we are in front of the Whitney Museum of American Art to see two independent rock concerts: Javelins and Warpaint! While waiting to be able to enter, we are photographed with a Polaroid in the queue, it makes us a memory!
Then it's time for concerts! Very good atmosphere and a great moment of rock'n'roll !!!
We decided to return after having lived a superb and exhausting first day !!! Tomorrow, go to the Top of the Rock !!! To be continued!
