Komodo Island is an island located in the islands of Nusa Tenggara. Komodo Island is known as the original habitat of komodo animals.
The island is also the area of Komodo National Park which is managed by the Central Government. Komodo Island is east of Sumbawa Island, which is separated by the Sape Strait.
On Komodo Island, Komodo dragons live and breed well. Until August 2009, on this island there are about 1300 tail dragons. Coupled with other islands, such as Rinca Island and and Gili Motang, their total number reaches around 2500 heads.
There are also about 100 Komodo dragons in the Wae Wuul Nature Reserve on the mainland of Flores Island but not including the Komodo National Park area.
In addition to dragons, the island also keeps the exotic flora of a variety of wooden python that by the surrounding people used as medicine and clothing coloring materials, this nitak tree or sterculia oblongata is believed to be useful as medicine and the seeds are tasty and tasty like peas.
Komodo Island is also accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as it is within the Komodo National Park area, along with Rinca Island, Padar Island and Gili Motang
