Thanks for all the love on my post yesterday! I'm working hard on improving my landscape photography skills so the support is great. These are some more photos from a few kilometers downriver from the location where I shot yesterday's photos. Those were shot in the evening and these late morning the next day.
Just like yesterday's photos, the area here is sandstone that is underwater half the year when the monsoon rains cause the river to rise. The currents swirl sand and rocks over the stone carving it out a little bit each year. The eddying currents cause swirls that bore out the holes that hold water and are replenished by occasional rain. The bigger ones trap fish which spend half a year in their own mini ecosystem before the rains come and they can rejoin the river.
The whole area is a photographer's dream, and to be honest it's hard to take a bad photo out here, especially with a nice wide lens. The widest I had here was 24mm which is pretty good, but I really wish I could have been at 16mm. I also wish I'd put on a zoom for a while and gotten some tighter framing, but everything just looked so good in that wide lens. It was blazing hot out there with no shade at all, so these photos definitely took some work to get.
Wonderful landscape along the Mekong River! I especially like the reflection on the water, really beautiful. Great shot! ;)
