UV blacklight photography

in photography •  7 years ago

Few years ago I was very passionate about UV or black light photography. I love nude photography so all my photos were mixture of human body, uv reflective inks (in some cases body art) and black light.
One of the biggest issues in UV photography is light, because black light is quite dim lighting. In my project I used two light sources - blackclight 48" (like long daylight) bulbs and LED lights.
These lights are totally different. The black light tubes gives weak, but quite even light, so in order to get enough light for photo you need to place light as close to the subject, as possible.
The LED light is another story. LED light is much more intense, BUT at the same time plastic lenses give a spot light, as most of the standard LED's light angle is approx 30 degrees. LEDs are fine for small objects like face photography, but chelenging if you like to light evenly full body. In order to soften light is possible to use filters-diffusers, but this will cause light loss as well.
This particular photo was made with two 48" black light bulbs lighting6499612_xlarge.jpg.
