Nadungamuwa Raja is an Indian Tusker born 1953 in Mysore State, India.. Raja is the main casket bearer of the procession of Esala held in Kandy, Sri Lanka.. Raja is one of the two elephant calves gifted by a Mysore Maharaja to the veteran native physician monk resided in Nilammahara Temple Piliyandala in appreciation of curing his relative's long lasted illness.., In 1978 he was acquired from his second owner by Dharmavijaya Veda Ralahamy of Nadungamuwa area, an eminent Ayurvedic physician of that since then he is named after his residing village Nadungamuwa.. Source

Raja is not like other Tuskers in Sri Lanka.. He resisted confined spaces like traveling in the back of a lorry or in a train but was ever willing to walk a long distance.. Other Tuskers are traveling to Kandy by some truck and Raja is going to Kandy with his own foot 100Km from Nadungamuwa.. His journey to Kandy takes 3 days and after the procession of Esala he is coming back to Nadungamuwa as same way..

On his journey to Kandy, he was going in front of my house and I captured him.. So, would like to share some clicks with you.. Clicked by Samsung Galaxy S5..

seems like from one side fearfully but from another side very interesting to see these huge animals from the closest distance when you can almost touch it
and also interesting this different color of the trunk
