Little island on sunset

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

When I used to live in Ukraine, every year at summer my friends and I selected one of the Ukrainian rivers and made a one-week water trip on the raw rubber boats. I took this shot in 2009 on the Dniester River near Khotyn.

I always liked nature and has a camera since I was a kid, but I tend to think my passion for landscape photography started from this very shot. This photo is my milestone in photography.

Do you have such a milestone photo? Could you share it and tell why?

About the place

wikipedia: The Dniester or Dnister River is a river in Eastern Europe. It runs first through Ukraine and then through Moldova (from which it separates the breakaway territory of Transnistria), finally discharging into the Black Sea on Ukrainian territory again.

The Dniester rises in Ukraine, near the city of Drohobych, close to the border with Poland, and flows toward the Black Sea. Its course marks part of the border of Ukraine and Moldova, after which it flows through Moldova for 398 kilometres (247 mi), separating the main territory of Moldova from its breakaway region Transnistria. It later forms an additional part of the Moldova-Ukraine border, then flows through Ukraine to the Black Sea, where its estuary forms the Dniester Liman.

Along the lower half of the Dniester, the western bank is high and hilly while the eastern one is low and flat. The river represents the de facto end of the Eurasian Steppe. Its most important tributaries are Răut and Bîc.

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday location located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Verona, and between Venice and Milan on the edge of the Dolomites. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (to the south-east), Brescia (south-west), and Trentino (north). The name Garda, which the lake has been seen referred to in documents dating to the eighth century, comes from the town of the same name. It is the evolution of the Germanic word warda, meaning "place of guard" or "place of observation

really nice picture

Nice short from a perfect angle! I must say that, you are indeed talented at photography right from your childhood 😉.

Wow! The mingling of purple and violet shades is incredible! That and the superb golden tint cast by the sun towards the left. Just baffling!
From your settings I'm getting that you were able to control the lighting in the picture/room by adjusting mainly to slow shutterspeed. Impressive!

Hola @dmytrikorol

Tolles Bild, tolle Farben, grandiose Stimmung.

I just love that you can pinpoint it to an exact moment like that. Mine started when I returned from 3 months backpacking around Europe and wanted to learn to take better photos as none of my tourist snaps did anything justice.

Nice work !

Wow Its beautiful @dmytrokorol. Everything in the picture has reflection. Beautifully captured by you. Thanks for sharing.

Nature is beutiful

Beautiful photo!

It is a very nice milestone as a memory and as a picture. I must be quite older than you, since my milestone was in the darckroom when I developed my first b&w print. In a few seconds I knew that I was at the beginning of a long and wonderful journey!
