A Million Dollar Highway View

missing fog line.jpg

I took this photograph while heading north on US Highway 550 through the Red Mountain Pass. If you look just past the hood of my truck you can see where the fog line doesn't exist because the road isn't there. As the story goes, the road exists where it is because a silver miner (whose name escapes me) built a road to carry his ore over the mountain.

This is what I call adventurous travelling.

Great place. I highly recommend it if you like spectacular views.

Another spectacular view! Though I might be a little nervous driving in some of those spots. :)

Some people choose to go through Lizard Head Pass even though it adds almost an hour to the drive because this road makes them nervous.

Looks like the views are worth a little nervous energy. ;)

Oh it is. I love this drive.

You like that. It was part of my commute when I was working in Ridgway.

Nice view! It was night the first time I drove that road, and I didn't realize there was a cliff with no guardrail until the next day when I drove back :)

Yep, when you drive through there at night, you have no idea of your surroundings.
