The Crashing Waves of Seneca as a Storm Passes Through (My Place of Worship on a Sunday)

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

I wonder if most people feel as I do about the awesome and terrible power of the wind.

My parents beach on Seneca Lake looking very ocean like on this particular day

Are they equally enthralled?

stormyseneca2.jpeg

Do they stand in worshipful awe?

I love the water, but it's truly the wind that fills me with electric excitement.

stormyseneca3.jpeg

The waves crashing against the dock,

stormyseneca4.jpeg

And hurling themselves into the shore are a sight to behold;

stormyseneca5.jpeg

But it's the wind that is responsible,

stormyseneca6.jpeg

that powers the water which wold otherwise be calm, still, serene.

stormyseneca7.jpeg

I am sure some people prefer that calm, but not me.

stormyseneca8.jpeg

I have always exalted in the chaos of the wind. It makes me feel alive.

stormyseneca9.jpeg

It makes me glad to be alive. It is the proof that I just might have chosen to be here.

I was writing these thoughts down as I sat on the deck and took pictures, and just as I wrote that last line, the sun broke through the clouds. A sign?

I missed these kinds of post from you! You know how I feel about the wind. The combination of that and the crashing waves are one of my favorite sounds in the world. One can't help but be contemplative upon hearing those with eyes closed. I just want to get lost inside moments like those.

That's exactly the way I feel, a perfect way to put it. Getting lost inside those moments...I can just sit and feel, not think, just experience life. That is God to me. And it's the one way that I can meditate without trying to.

Here here! We share the exact sentiment, sister!

Also, it's Howie's fault I haven't been doing these posts, he said I was doing them too much and people would get tired of them, that I needed to spread them out a lot more so they would stay fresh.

He makes a good point. I think the longing added to the effect to this, so it definitely worked!

I love some crashing waves and wind. The lake really does look like an ocean in those pics!

Hmmm... I think I might like it more if I lived somewhere else. Yes, crashing waves are exciting, but here in Wellington, it's so windy most of the time that you do get a bit sick of it. This time of year can be especially trying as it's when we start to get nice sunny weather. But often the wind is so strong it becomes unpleasant to be out in it. On the plus side, we have no pollution and we like to think that it keeps the Aucklanders away from our otherwise beautiful city.

Wow. Very nice

Wonderful and incredible clicks must be a fun experience :D

Your post is an eye-opener. As strange as this may sound, I also would prefer strong winds (not the powerful, hurricane-strong type).
Thinking about it, whenever the wind is blowing strong, I go outside and look at the sky to see the clouds.
Even if the sky is dark, as long as there is a gap between the clouds where the sun's shine can pass, I know its going to be a good day :)
Anyway, your family owns a beach? That is so awesome (I actually feel the tiniest bit envious) :D

Awe! I like the quiet spot in a cove, where I can see the wind without being beat by it. I love that I helped inspire these thoughts next to such a grand scene as that!

Thanks for the pics and video, great colors. Oh I was playing a wedding last night and the videographer had a Canon a lot like mine in design. Anyway, I learned last night that my camera is also a video camera! I've had it for months and never even thought to look at the buttons and knobs-- I know 'shutter speed' and 'white balance' and that's where it ended for me on my old camera. I don't think it has a lot of space for video on the card, but it's an option now to make little videos with this camera.

Great shots. Looks like a lovely little place for some reflection.
