Fujifilm X-E2, my opinion after a few months using it

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

The Fujifilm X-E2 is a mirrorless camera that came out in 2014. I bought it in 2017 from a friend, a semi professional photographer. Untill that moment, I only had eyes for Nikon and it took me some time to convince myself that the Fujifilm could be a good replacement for my old Nikon D90. The Nikon is a lot bigger and heavier than the X-E2 and I noticed that I no longer took my Nikon to everywhere, everytime. Apart from that, most of the time I shoot landscapes so I do not need to bring a suitcase with lenses with me. My friend was sending me great sharp pictures from the X-E2, shot indoors, in poor light conditions, and they all where really good. I sold my Nikon with lenses, filters, flashing, etc. and bought his Fujifilm.

We talk about expensive camera's, but I am stunned about the photo quality of stupid smartphone's. I made this one with my iPhone SE. I'ts ridiculous...good and that should be forbidden :-)

It was a good decision, i must say. Of course, you cannot compare the Nikon D90 from 2008, with a camera build in 2014. There is a six years of difference in innovation. Therefore, this is not an comparison between two camera's. Its just a description of what i noticed when using my 'new' camera.

  1. Very sharp pictures.
  2. Shooting in poor light, even darkness, is no longer a problem. Good acceptable pictures will be delivered with ISO 6400. Same with indoor shooting. I allways hated the use of flash.
  3. Importent controls on the outside, like shutter speed and exposure compensation dials.
  4. There's a 'Quich menu' button with acces to the ISO mode, but you can use the 'Fn' button as a ISO button.
  5. Lightroom, which I use mostly when shooting RAW, automatically recognizes the lens.
  6. Lightweight and small camera.
  7. Did I mention the very sharp pictures?

I have become very attached to this camera and I don't miss my Nikon D90 at all. Great sharp pic's. Easy to use. High quality under difficult light conditions. For the rest, yes, this camera has everything on board what every camera must have on board these day's. Even Wifi. But I mainly choose a camera on only the above seven points. The rest is 'nice to have'. If you want to buy the X-E2 you must now buy it second hand because there's a successor, the X-E2s. Today (2018), the X-E2s will cost around 630 Euro, inclusive good 'kit' lens (18-55mm 1:2.8-4). For a full technical review, I do advice you to have a look on dpreview.com. They do a far better job than me :-)

Downhere, I show some pictures I have made with this exellent camera.
