Nevitsky Castle

in photography •  7 years ago

The Ukrainian castle with the most intricate legend and the most ugly ghost, Nevitsky is located on a low hill 12 km from Uzhgorod. Although he can not boast of a long history - only four centuries - the events that have occurred here would be more than enough for the annals of the European state of the average hand. Hungarian princes, Mongolian-Tatar hordes, and Transylvanian nobles also stayed here. For 400 years the castle stands in ruins, but there is still something to do: admire the majestic remains of the medieval tower-donjon, admire the beautiful view of the bend of the river Uzh, listen to the terrible legend of the Turkish princess-sorceress and take part in the theatrical performance of Transcarpathian wedding rituals .

Nevitsky castle dates back to the end of the 12th century - then it performed a defensive function to protect the border between Hungary and Galicia. Initially, the wooden fortress fell from the Tatar-Mongol in the 13th century, and half a century later the castle was rebuilt already stone. The next century Nevitsky Castle passed from the hands of some insurgents to the hands of others, until it "settled" in the domain of the Druget family. In the 17th century, the son of this honorary family came into conflict with the Transylvanian prince and was defeated, due to which the castle was destroyed - since that time he lies in ruins. However, in the 19th and 20th centuries cosmetic restorations were carried out here - in particular, wooden pommel was added to the tower.

Nevitsky castle has remained pretty bad, but an attentive (and romantic) tourist will find here food for inspiration. Climbing to the top of the hill, you will certainly pay attention to the wonderful view of the surroundings and the banks of the river Uzh - especially beautiful here at sunset.
The oval layout of the castle is still guessed in the ruins of the basement of its walls - this form once was the main terrace of the structure. The best preserved are two towers with square loopholes, including a tower-dungeon, to which in our time was attached a wooden pommel. It is a real lock symbol and a design visible from afar. The fortress walls and walls of the inner courtyard have reached our days in a dilapidated state, but here you can still appreciate the solid foundation of the foundation, according to legend, fastened with the same magic solution. An attentive visitor will notice and earthen ramparts - part of the fortification structures of the castle.

Nice castle! :)

It looks like incredible location to shot the movie like Game of thrones or something.

Great photos! It's not ugly... I loved taking photos of ruined castles, when I lived in Spain. They don't smile, but are great subjects. Nice work, and interesting!
