THE TANGARA SEVEN COLORS (TANGARA CHILENSIS) IS A PASSERIFORM BIRD OF THE FAMILY THRAUPIDAE THAT IS FOUND IN THE AMAZON OF VENEZUELA, PERU, COLOMBIA, ECUADOR, BOLIVIA, BRAZIL AND THE GUYANAS AND IN THE AMAZON PIEDMONT, UP TO 1450 M OF ALTITUDE.
IT MEASURES BETWEEN 13.5 AND 15 CM IN LENGTH AND WEIGHS ON AVERAGE 20.5 G. THE HEAD IS BRIGHT GREEN, THE NECK AND UPPER BACK AND WINGS ARE BLACK, BUT THE LOWER PART OF THE BACK TOWARDS THE TAIL IS A DEEP YELLOW COLOR. THE THROAT IS PURPLE OR VIOLET; CHEST AND TURQUOISE BLUE BELLY. THE RABADILLA IS RED. THE BEAK IS BLACK AND GRAY PAWS.
IT IS USUALLY IN BANDS OF 4 TO 20 INDIVIDUALS, WHO FREQUENT HIGH CANOPY AND EMERGING TREETOPS, SEEK FOOD FOR A FEW MINUTES, AND THEN FLY QUICKLY TO OTHER TALL, DISTANT TREES. SOMETIMES THEY ARE ASSOCIATED WITH OTHER SPECIES OF BIRDS. THEY FEED ON FRUITS, BERRIES AND INSECTS.
