I decided the itch was too strong to ignore, I had to grab my favorite bush crafting buddy @samsiedenstrang and hit the woods.
After a little disagreement about where we wanted to go we finally parked the van and headed out with our backpacks.
A quick 10 minute hike led us to the river, in this area there was a brief flooding after we hit a streak of 40 degree weather. This water mostly froze in the marsh area and as the water receded areas continued to freeze, giving the ice a really interesting appearance of small rolling hills as far as the eye could see.
We stopped at an area that was barely accessible without crossing the ice. We ended up on what was almost a peninsula with ice surrounding us from all directions. A truly remarkable location, we could hardly pass it up.
We started by finding some kindling from a type of birch tree.
After collecting some firewood, Sam built a lean-to type fire. One little spark and it took right off.
After it got going and we had some coals built up it was a time for bush crafting snacks. We boiled some water for instant noodles and fried up some chopped potatoes.
We even warmed up some dessert!

All-in-all it was a great time and I am glad we did it. I simply cannot get enough nature time.
Everything tastes better cooked over a campfire - even fruit pies!

The fruit pies were just a last-minute addition. They were SO good after dinner!
