Night Street - Photos from the Roof (Sumy, Ukraine)

Only looking at the city from above, you can understand how small we really are and how small are the problems of one person in the city scale.

It was in the distant 2009, when access to many roofs of our city was still free, and my husband and I had a lot of free time to walk after work.

Then you can easily take a bottle of beer, climb higher, and watch the bustle of the city, people resembling ants from such a height, machines, scurrying to and fro, obeying the rhythm of traffic lights.

Then none of us did not have any smartphones to do selfies, and a digital camera with 8 megapixels was considered quite normal technique, allowing a little experimentation with the settings. Wow, 3 seconds exposure! Ha-ha!

Damn, the tripod would be very useful... But then many decisions were taken spontaneously and the photoset was also not planned.
A little bit missing those days.

@erikaflynn, is the rooftop access no longer allowed? How sad, it that is the case. In the USA it depends on the building owner whether people are allowed access or not. There are newer buildings purposely designed with a rooftop plaza in the big cities (even including a swimming pool or garden if it is a building for wealthy people).

I've enjoyed your old pictures!

Thank you for your attention to my blog and for your help with post-promo! I appreciate it.

You know, you are surprisingly lucky that your city has such a modern approach to this issue. In our city, a high-rise building is a maximum of 16 floors, then there is a technical floor to service the elevator, and then - the roof. (That's like in this house, where I shot my photos).

So the elevators are the main reason for closing the roofs, or rather they are not themselves, but thieves, who steal some valuable details from there, than brought many elevators into a non-working condition. Idiots. What can I say...

That's sad, @erikaflynn. The elevators here are often made to allow floors to be locked out from general passenger access. They require a special key to make the doors open on the service floor, or other restricted access floor. I do feel grateful for where I live.
Cheers!

I know a couple from Sumy, they live in Kiev now. Really nice people, both of them!

Yes, we have some difficulties with work here, many people leave. I also know a couple from Sumy, who moved to Kiev, but hardly we know the same people

Anton and Kate? :))

no, Sergey and Irina. I told you, small chances:-)))

Very cool! What a great spot. Looks like my kind of perch. More rooftop pictures! :)

Great views! I love sitting on a roof top. I've spent a lot of time in Brooklyn, NY, and it's rare that a night doesn't end up on someone's roof with a couple beers and a blunt.

looks like a river of fire

Beautiful lights! The image blur is a lovely effect.

Thanks! You can be wondered but no special effects were applied to these pictures, just it was raining:-)
Captured and posted "as is".

amazing few, and what do you mean by that?
It was in the distant 2009, when access to many roofs of our city was still free

Now almost all the roofs of high buildings are closed, only repairmen are allowed to be on the roof:(

in a way that isn't that bad in my mind. imagine if you live in the final floor and you have at night some kids in the roof screaming and not letting you sleep :P or we are talking about abandoned high roof buildings?

No, I'm not saying that this is bad. There were serious reasons for such a step, far more serious than just noise on the roof. Everything is quite logical. It's just sad that now you can not go up and make some magical photos.

Beautiful view to watch
