El Fortín de La Galera fue uno de los pilares de resistencia contra el asalto español de 1817, cuando invadieron la localidad venezolana. Frente a los cañones se posa la playa La Galera, que reposa a un lado de la Laguna de los Mártires, de la cual sus aguas, según cuenta la leyenda, se rebosaron de sangre producto de un milagro, que habría acontecido en honor a los caídos en la batalla por la independencia del flagelo europeo, contribución fundamental a la posterior fundación de la República.

El Fortín de la Galera was one of the pillars of resistance against the Spanish assault of 1817, when they invaded the venezuelan town. Opposite the canyons, the beach La Galera rests, resting on one side of the Laguna de los Mártires, from which its waters, according to a legend, were overflowing with blood resulting from a miracle that would have happened in honor of the fallen in the battle for the independence of the European scourge, fundamental contribution to the later founding of the Republic.
