Red-Bellied Woodpecker Posing for a Photo (Original Photo)

in photography •  8 years ago

Not long after sunrise this Red-Bellied Woodpecker landed in a tree in my backyard. Even though there was a lot of sun glare I took the shot as the woodpecker posed for a photo.

Thank You!

Nice photo! I haven't seen one of those in ages!

Thank you!

The Red-bellied woodpecker is a frequent guest at my bird feeders. They particularly like peanuts.

They have a fairly limited range across the United States.

Beautiful picture. Maybe the ISO
slightly high, introduce some noise.

Thank you!

I have scrutinized this picture quite a bit. I almost did not post it because of the effect. The early morning sun was very intense and at just the wrong angle for taking the shot in my opinion. I think the sun was reflecting off of a light colored wood director's chair that was behind and to the side of me when I took the picture. It is that chair's reflection off the window that could be in the shot.

When you have just an instant to decide whether to take the picture or not, sometimes it does not come out as perfect as you like.

I still have more to learn when it comes to taking pictures. SteemIt has certainly re-energized my interested in photography and using my camera better.

Steem on,
Mike

Yes, I understand that is a question of seconds. With the window is normal the effect. Maybe, an ISO lower it would be possible with a minor speed shutter, I believe that 1/250 would work fine with your lens. I like your post, only comment some technical question, because this is that I' d like to find in a photography community. Keep on showing your work.
P.D: I use this webpage also to improve my english, sorry for the mistakes. ;)

Thank you so much for your comments.

A long time ago I had a really fine Canon EOS film camera. I knew all the tricks with that camera.

I jumped to digital photography with this camera, but I am still getting used to it and learning all the tricks it can do. I am still using full auto-mode but would really like to master getting out of the full auto-mode like I did with my film camera. Some of my best posters were taken with ISO 25 film.

I really appreciate any advice I can get. When I retire in the fall, I am committed to learning all the tricks with this digital camera and improving my photography skills.

And thank you so much for your feedback!!!

Well, my best advice begins to shoot in manual mode since the first moment. Maybe not, for familiar photos or travel memories, but for photography of plants, landscapes, .... There are not many differences with a film camera to start. After, you can play with Focus mode, white balancing, ....

Beautiful Lil Guy!

Thank you! He did make the perfect pose for his picture.
