Falling Sun + Testing a "New" Nikkor Lens

I'm currently in Hellsinki with @escapist and we spend the day in the modern art museum taking lots of pictures. I'll post about that tomorrow probably, but if you don't want to wait, you can head over here to see what the bff photographed there. Before we went to the museum, I wanted to go to an electronics store to touch some Macbooks, because I need to buy one soon. We did some very sneaky Steemit promoting over there and left Steemit open for several Macbooks, wonder if we got anyone interested :P

Aaaaanyways, today I'm sharing with you pictures taken 400 kilometers north from here last week. These pictures were the first test shots with my new (previously owned by the bff) Nikkor 70-300mm 4-5.6G lens, and of course using the Nikon D7200. I know nothing about the technical stuff so my "review" is based more on the initial feel I got from using it.

First of all, it's an older model and it doesn't have the VR stabilizer thingy, so it's somewhat impossible to get a sharp image without a tripod. And even with a tripod, I think the image is not that clear, hmm.

Another thing I noticed is that I get crazy lens flairs reaaaally easily with this one, so I might have to try it with a lens hood, I have those lying around somewhere.

In my mind I keep comparing this to the Nikkor 55-200mm 4-5.6G, which I use all the time and love dearly. I can shoot with it without a tripod and it produces really nice, vibrant images without me even trying that hard. The overall image quality just isn't that good with the 70-300mm one, but I definitely need to play around with it more to see what I can get out of it.

I think next time I should take both of those lenses with me and do a side-by-side comparison. But for now, the 55-200mm beats this one 100-0.

There it goes, bye bye.

If there are any photographers that shoot with Nikon, what lens do you reach out for the most?

Absolutely stunning!

Lovely shots but the second picture got my attention, so one questions one is that ice(i mean the ground)? And the sky looks like painting.. 😉

It’s a snow covered field 😁

really beautiful views. very good job my friends.

The last two pictures are breathtaking.

all that electronic gadgetry sure can make photography easier.

@eveuncovered kauniita kuvia ja ihania värejä. Kiva muutenkin lukea postauksia joissa jotakin sisältöarvoa. Terkkuja täältä eteläisemmästä päästä Suomea! <3 @olmosdesign

Kiitoksia!

So beautiful post,i like your posts very much.

I read your article which awakened my curiosity and after some research concluded that since you are using a camera Nikon D7200, the Nikkor 70-300mm 4-5.6G lens is compatible already as from models no. D7100. A firmware update may be necessary. Your last photos are really great. @eveuncovered

I really like your post is amazing. i want to follow a pretty good amotifasi.terimakasih have shared, photography life is very beautiful.

I have seen numerous pictures of sunset but this one is extraordinary. I would like to know the camera you used. Is it Samsung Camera? Excellent photo

Oh, sorry, I forgot to name the camera, it is a Nikon D7200.

This is unbelievable. I could get that camera with my lifesavings. These pictures gives me goose bumps

That is not too bad for a cell phone pic :)

Absolutely stunning views

wow, this was nice golden sunset!

Absolutely beautiful love your photos!

Lovely shots! It's great to have a nice big zoom available when you need it! If you're struggling with sharp shots try to remember the focal length rule, so your 70-300 has an equivalent focal length of 105-450mm (It's on a cropped sensor Nikon so they have a 1.5x crop factor, making the lens appear tighter) If you can keep above 1/500th of a second you should be ok to get tight shots at any focal length. Of course at f/5.6 and 1/500th you may well end up needing to go to a higher ISO than normal unless it's a particularly bright day!

Some lovely shots in there all the same! I recently bought a 40-150 (80-300 equivalent) for my Olympus and I love it, but it does amaze me just how much light you need really!

I was kind of hoping that you’d come and comment on this post because you know your shit when it comes to photography 😁

I’ll try a faster shutter speed next time, I think I only had something like 1/125 on these. I’m starting to dream about a full frame camera....

Ah, that may well be it then! If you're doing tripod work a self timer tends to make the shots a little sharper too. Haha I used to want FF so bad before I eventually got my first. I do much prefer the look, depth of field is nicer too but only if you're pixel peeping. Your 35mm is actually more like a 50mm so it would make that look quite different! Mind you, 50mm is my favourite focal length so you might miss it! BUT, your 200mm would look a lot different too! Long zooms are awesome with cropped sensors!

Your photography is like a piece of Art. Amazing <3 @eveuncovered

Sublime and restful.

By the way, you didn't get back to me on the ISO setting for the constellation Orion pictures.

Just curious...

Omg I’m so sorry, I already tried to find that info but forgot to answer! So, I couldn’t find the iso from the image info and I already deleted it from the memory card. I’m pretty sure the iso was somewhere between 1000-2000, and the shutter time was 20seconds.

Ha, found it, it was shot in ISO 1000!

Beautiful photos, greetings

Lovely photos.
I kinda like lenses that flare as long as they are predictable.

I've used that model of 70-300 lens.
It's not the best lens but it's not terrible.

From memory it was decent in the 70-150 range then a little softer at 300.
(Also used the newer VR version which is just better in every way.)
I own the Sigma version of this too. Which I bought cheaply to play with and still own it 9+ years later.

The 55-200 is a better lens.
Maybe you need to fine tune your autofocus for this lens.
Your D7200 has that function.
You will def have to stop down the aperture to f8 or f11 to get more sharpness.
Might mean boosting your iso to compensate.

I definitely need to play with this more and try out what would be the best use for this. I’ve been getting some good tips in here I paid next to nothing on this so I don’t mind if it doesn’t become a new favourite 😁

Nice to see your photo that demonstrates some real situation image-making practices. I love the lens and use it almost exclusively for portraiture. I don't find that the lack of VR is a drawback as I always shoot fairly fast (higher iso) and haven't noticed any motion blur problems. The focus isolation of your subject is supreme. It does everything I expected it to and is great. Amazing shot!

I think this lens is great :) Nice photos keep it up

Its really an amazing view .... i follow u already follow me back thank You

wow...amazing place.

Beautiful photos, lady. I really want to make it to Helsinki one of these days! Was thinking of going for the longest day of the year festival. :-) I'll be following you for more updates!
