Off the Wall

I found something I don't believe I have ever shows you before; a set of self portraits back from 2016. This was around the time when I started to get back into photography, having abandoned my camera for a couple years, and replaced it with the iPhone, despicable! These pictures have only been shown on Instagram, you guys are the first ones to see them in a bigger format.

Judging from the length of my nails, I have been on a summer holiday from my job, and used that time to get back into self portraits. I still had dark hair, and I think I started to grow out my natural colour somewhere around the seconds half of 2016. I liked the raven hair, but putting poison into my scalp once a month was something I didn't want to do anymore. I miss it sometimes but overall, I'm pretty happy being more natural.

I think my self portrait work has come a long way from these times, but I still like a lot of the same elements; smoke, mirrors, available light and skin. I do not miss the fibreglass wallpaper of my old apartment.

Shot with the Nikon D60 and Nikkor 35mm f/1.8.

Probably a good idea. The cigarette is for effect or you actually smoke?

For effect, I don't smoke regularly, basically only for pictures and sometimes when I'm out.

It certainly adds some effect. I didn't expect you smoked much to be honest. Nice set of photos. I have enough trouble getting a good photo with the camera in my hands let alone like you do! Timer I guess right?

There is just something about smoke that intrigues me. I also like to model with my hands, smoking gives them something to do, instead of flop around weirdly.

I never use the self times, it's hell to work with! I either use a little remote, like I did on these pictures, or the Nikon/Fujifilm camera apps on my phone. The phone method works better, but the big ass iPhone plus is harder to hide in pictures.

Sounds legit. I mean your photo's are pretty good, I'm not a photographer of course, but to me they look good and that you set it all up yourself...Pretty cool.

Sounds like a good blog in the making here...All the creative ways you've come up with to hide the iPhone.

Smoking hot. I can see how you’ve learned and grown over the last couple of years in your skills with selfies. But I love how you point out the consistent smoke and mirror elements. That long been part of who you are/how you identify yourself. Xo

Thank you love! I guess I kind of knew what my style was, very early on, but I do like to experiment with other things and build my skills.

You’ve inspired me now...going to share some older photos myself. Thanks for this!

I love these "oldies", Eve. They have such a special atmosphere. (Of course I love your newer ones too!) :)

Thank you very much! :)

I think you evolved and advanced a lot in taking self portraits.
Having said that these are good enough especially the ones with cigarette and smoke

Haha, I'll take the "good enough" as a compliment, but only this time, thanks! :D

lovely photos

I like them a lot. And the dark hair!

Thank you Ross! Don't like the dark hair too much, it needs to stay in the past.
