Suomieksotiikkaa SAATANA! - Abandoned

A traditional type of Finnish wooden house, build in the early 20th century, left to rotten somewhere in the late 80's. The Finnish countryside is filled with houses like this, once occupied by families, then maybe left to one of the siblings who decided to stay alone in the outskirts while others moved to cities in search of a better life.

When the old man dies, and no children are left to take care of the house, a distant relative inherits the old house but hardly even visits it, maybe just to check if there is anything valuable or a nice decorative piece to be brought back to bring some interest to the city interior. There is no monetary value in the house, but the lands around it are sold and profits used to pay for the mortgage of the city apartment or for buying a new car.

The house is left alone, maybe every now and then it goes on the local newspaper "house for sale", a little add in the corner of the next to last page, where it stays without nobody really paying attention. New couples and families trying to find homes are not willing to buy something that would require a lot of renovation. Who knows how much money it would take and it's so old fashioned and its so far away from the nearest store too.

So the house stays lonely. Once in a while the current owner goes there, on his way to the summer cabin. Sees that one window is broken and a bird made a nest on top of the cabinet in the wall, he barres the window, takes one look around, sighs and leaves.

Such is the tale of many old houses, abandoned and left to rot.

This is where I wanted to go shooting today, but my entry was blocked.

This would have been the perfect place to test out the new Sigma lens on the 18mm end and see how much light I can get with it, shooting in the dark corners of this old abandoned house. I went around the house, to a back window I used once before to get in, I was literally waist deep in snow and very disappointed when I saw that the window had been barred from inside.

Oh well, still wanted to share something and came up with a bit of a story, hope you liked it.

I like your amazing photography is very nice
I appreciate writing story

Wonderful photography. I like it this story.
Thanks for sharing life.......

That third image is so cool. I kinda get how you did it, but with the defining lines of the reflection of the nature outside and the interior, it's like seeing an intersection of two different worlds colliding. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! It was definitely a lucky accident that I got the tree branches like that to the reflection :)

Amazed I'm enjoying B&W images.
Rarely do.
Keep them coming.

Check out the great posts I already resteemed.

A sweet but sad story. Great post, @eveuncovered! Nice photos, too. 😉

Ocean's 1: Eve in da house

Not too hard to go in, but the owner has clearly been there at least once after last summer, so I'm not gonna break in again.

Burglar Baggins knows best. so we will trust your intuition/ expertise:P

😂 The hobbit thing is gonna stick with me, is it?

as long as I will consider it fun. afterwards we will have to think of something else to entertain us.😉

It's a damn long story, there is lot to pull material from...

I could live in that house!

They look beautiful though...I have seen a lot of them in movies and always thought of having one for myself.... The other learning that i took from the writing is that children are not emotionally connected to parents and there is no strong bonding in the families in western countries and some of the european countries .

Good story. Shame you didn't get to go inside

Perkele notta on nätti tupa

No eikö vaa olekki! Kyllähä tommosessa kelepais asustella ku vähä laittelis.

Tommosissa on ihan mukava käydä sisällä hetken aikaa kunnes alkaa home tuntumaan nenässä

Amazing photograpy.
I appreciate your writing story.. keep it up
