Testing Ideas — SteemCN

I think if you are a dedicated follower of mine, you know that I am always winging it with my photographs. I don't plan, test out lighting, wardrobe or set design, I just go for it and do it all when I get an idea. Sometimes it ends up being really good and things easily click into place, other times it's an utter disaster and nothing works and I get super frustrated. I really should start to plan out, especially my self portrait shoots, well in advance so I don't just make a mess for nothing. I always have a lot of ideas, little bits and bobs that I want to use for photography, but putting them into a coordinated shoot is where I lack at.

I'm highly fascinated by smoke/fog, I don't know what it is but it's so darn beautiful and that is why I smoke in my pictures, but not really in real life. I know it's not healthy. I recently bought a humidifier, and I have it on 24/7 and I keep staring at it all the time. I've yet to use it for self portraits, but I really want to figure out a way I could utilise it. I want to create a smokey looking environment and have the smoke roll down my body, that would be pretty nice right? Another option to add smoke for pictures is a vaping device, which would be quite a lot healthier than smoking a cigarette.

Yesterday I tried one for the first time, but it hurt my throat and I was coughing for five minutes after one hit, so I can't do it myself. I wish I could because it produces a very thick cloud of smoke and it's not too bad even used inside, no need to air out the apartment for hours after that.

My friend who visited yesterday, agreed to vape per my request so I could try a few things in terms of photographing it. We weren't trying to get anything serious and I was sure as hell not going for a self portrait photoshoot, but it was fun to try out what might work with some planning.

I got an idea of blowing smoke towards a spell book, to make it look like it's going to come up in flames any second, and I think it looks pretty darn cool. We also tried if we could slam the book shut and have a puff of smoke come out of it but it disappeared too quickly to do that. There needs to be some set design, cleaning up the background and planting me as a witchy character into the picture, but I think we are onto something.
