Medieval torture tools

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

A while ago I was in a very specific museum not very far from my town in Poland. A wonderfoul place to visit. With amazing exhibits to look at.
Among them there was a wall with those strange metal tools.

Ok here we go.

Those are old fashioned forms to make glass Christmas decorations. There was a worldwide known factory in Milicz, Poland where all kinds of shape and sizes ornaments were made. All hand made painted and shaped. Shipped to all parts of the world and to all kinds of famous people.

The factory was open in 1951-2008 and was producing over 1 000 000 glass ornaments year. All of them handmade, hand painted and most of them shipped abroad.

Few years after the factory closed a museum opened with over 6000 exhibits that were saved. And they were so worth saving! The shapes are so amazing. From traditional round ones, star shaped to houses, fruits, animals, long drops, eggs.... you name it :)

Here are some of them:

It was really awesome reading the post, and in the beginning i really had no clue what were the equipment used for. i would like to tell you about a indian city by the name of firozabad where glass bangles are made out of every color present in the rainbow, every combination and every detail is kept in kind and the works are done by hands, but now due to high demands and commercialization, they had to shift to machine made goods but the real art and beauty still lies in hand made materials.

That is so true! Now most of the Christmas ornaments is mass produced. It's not the same.... And such a pity that those hand made things are harder and harder to get.

Absolutely amazing!
Fortunately all this has been saved,
it's a wonderful art to work with glass.
These balls are unique that makes you want to go back to Christmas!

Yeaaa I wish the factory was still open. They were making really amazing things!
The plastic decorations now are nothing like it.
Those were so thin... so delicate that you had to be super careful not to break any. Making sure they are stored properly to last another year. It all made them more special and precious.

First thought was torture tools indeed ;) Very cool find ! :)

Haha they do look like it :D
Such cool things!

Indeed - very cool :)
