Spring is here - part 4 - Onionweed

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Day 4 of my Spring search. And another invasive plant, but oh so so pretty! I like it so much, that I picked some and planted in a pot on my balcony :) I don't care if it spreads to all my post. I love it!
Those photos are from a wild growing one though.

This is Asphodelus fistulosus also called Onionweed. See? Weed in a name. Someone really doesn't like this one.
From what I saw in Google it is the smallest one that can be found here in Portugal from the Asphodelus family. I saw once it's big sister and the flower stems were my height! This one reaches just about knee height.

The leaves look like chives and and flower have those brownish stripes on the back of the petals. They don't bloom for long. Then they will spread the seeds and wait for next spring to sprout.

Spring is such a wonderful season. When all the critters come out and play. Beautiful plants blossom too bad we only have two seasons here. Can I eat that onion weed?

Of course you can eat it. Just dunno how many times :p

These are so pretty, love the line on the back of the petals!
