As a new member of steemit, well 3 weeks anyway I have really been enjoying myself on this platform .
So today out of the blue I received an email from #photobucket @photobucket that tells me that I am not allowed to use any of my photographs for what they are calling 3rd party hosting. That means Steemit.
What the h*** does that mean, these are all my photos that I have stored and the simple download it goes back-to my telephone for my personal use... Any of the photographs that I downloaded were strictly mine and to my phone I haven't even stuck a picture from photo bucket to any place at all.
SO THEY HAVE EMBEDDED A CODE IN MY PICTURES AND HOLD THEM FOR $399.00 RANSOM$$$$$$ $399 for the upgrade..$$$$$ can you believe that ? $399 or $39per month

Again thats $399 they want
I am definitely going to have to check into this further because all I did was took a download of a baby banana plant and stuck it with my video to make a decent steemit post. Now I'm not sure who has ownership. You take a photo, store it somewhere like #photobucket and now all of a sudden they decide that they own it yes this will take some time..
I need answers on how to get my unbedded photos back... heres another bit of truth about my upload.
I figured out ill have to "screenshot" the pictures to remove the code...problem solved....

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. While I definately see your frustration this is what can happen when we use free third party sites. We don't have control over our content, were playing on their field by their rules.
Now not all companies are like this, Youtube lets us use their bandwith and use their site to store videos which we can use elsewhere but then again they are embedded so Youtube is still making ad revenue and has something to gain. That said that's not to say Youtube couldn't do something similar down the road.
If you really want to own and control everything you either need to keep copies of everything on zip drives or an external harddrive or need to pay for storage
I was going to suggest Amazon but after knocking all the other storage companies out of business with their ridiculously low price of like $60 per year they now have raised it so I guess nothing is safe

It was really noticeable last light. I downloaded about 25 of our family photos to find not one of them will open...
But i did get a good screen shot of them... This will be a long process but i tbi nk I've learned a good lesson.
