Being Watched... (Original Black & White Photography)

Howdy,

Out at Minneopa State Park in Mankato, MN (USA), the bison were far from the road, grazing and doing whatever it is that bison generally do. As I rounded a corner, a large bird in a dead, spooky-looking tree caught my eye. It was a turkey vulture!

Apparently, I caught his eye, as well. He seemed to be studying my old truck, probably thinking "that thing's done for, but it doesn't look tasty." He's probably right.

I don't know what he was looking down at, here, but he studied the ground for awhile. Maybe there was a limping rabbit or a sickly squirrel.

After about ten minutes, he turned around on the branch, spread his wings, and took flight. I managed to get two shots of his retreating form and was more than a little surprised to see them in perfect focus. My old camera isn't the best, but the lens is incredibly quick!

I LOVE turkey vultures!! I think they are creepy/cool, although our aging neighbor doesn't like it when they land on his house. Our neighbor used to yell out, "F#K off...I'm not dead yet!!" That 1st photo is fantastic!
We were on our way to Miami and one decided to be suicidal. Ripped our side mirror right off! It made for an interesting drive into Miami as everyone on the mirrorless side would confirm it was ok to switch lanes.

Thanks! I like your neighbor's response... lol! It's amazing how much damage those big birds can do. A previous car of mine had hit a turkey (non vulture variety) and it snapped the grill in half.

This vulture and I watched each other for qhite awhile. With the way my truck's been falling apart, I think he might have been an omen...

Our neighbor used to yell out, "F#K off...I'm not dead yet!!"
bahahahahaha!

Great shots bud, the dead tree definitely creates a haunting picture in black & white. Turkey vultures are some really ugly birds, but they are surprisingly smart. I guess God blessed them with MUCH more brains than beauty!

There's a house down the street from me and they never put a lid on their trash can. Come trash day, there are always plenty of them perched on his rooftop or already digging through his trash making a mess.

Thanks! They definitely won't win any bird beauty contests, but they are sort of fascinating. Their beaks are even kind of creepy. The way they can just hold an air current and almost hover is pretty amazing, too.

Yuck. I bet the trash smells great, too. I don't mind seeing vultures out in the wild, but I wouldn't want them hanging around my house like some sort of pet.

thankfully those folks are moving out soon!

Great photos @fotosdenada Well Done! 🌼

Thanks!

My pleasure @fotosdenada

I love your photos. I mean not just the ones here. And the stories you share. I'm glad we've meet here on Steemit. Too bad my upvote means insignificant reward.

Thanks, and likewise!

With the price of Steem so low, most of us feel like our votes aren't worth much. I'd be posting photos, regardless, so any earnings are just a bonus :-) I did try stock photography, but only made $0.66.

Thanks, I'll keep posting photos too. What do you mean by stock photography?

Stock photography is where you can list photos and companies can buy then for use with their publications. I've only gotten one sale so far.

Jajaj 😌😌
