Howdy,
It's been difficult to get out, lately, but I finally had the chance... and some interesting subject material. As it's #wideanglewednesday, these were all taken with an ultra-wide 10-22mm lens.
Mankato has been undergoing some major construction projects. This first image shows the road in front of the large Catholic church down town. I thought they were done last year, but they must not have been...
Holy or Holey?
When I returned to the city yesterday, I noticed there was something odd along the side of Main Street. Several houses are completely gone, and there is one up on rollers!
Next Generation RV
While I'm not sure what is going on for this particular home, a colleague of mine near the Bethal College is surrounded by similar "mobile" homes. She told me that the college is putting in a sports dome and homes are being forced out. She mentioned that herself and several of her neighbors are doing everything they can to be able to stay where they are.
Getting Carried Away
With the first week of classes only a few days away, things have gotten busy. I'm already planning classes, have a syllabus ready, and am trying to mentally prepare for the change. As a result, I may not be publishing quite as frequently for awhile, but will definitely post when I have the opportunity.

I always love watching people work and/ or progress. That would be tough on people that want to stay, but maybe they will like the next place even better:). I’m in Russia and I’m shocked at the infrastructure improvements since the last time I was here.
So, with this being your last year, at what point do you start figuring out where you are going to move to?
Had a chuckle on the next generation rv lol

Russia, eh? That sounds fascinating. Do you get enough time to day-trip into some of the towns and cities and experience the culture a bit? It would be amazing to visit. Plus, I keep getting date requests from "single Russian ladies" in my spam filter... lol
I believe the houses are being relocated to new lots. I just ope they're relatively close to where they were before.
As for figuring out the next move, it's really complicated. I had an interview for a Montessori school last summer and am continuing to look at open positions. I may apply to go back to Spain, though 4th time applicants are almost never accepted. I'd be using that as a way to find a permanent position, though that remains incredibly difficult. You never know, though. I might meet a single Spanish lady...

I see you speak Canadian too eh? Lol and you gotta love the efforts of the spam people.
We were only in Russia for the day but I always love it. Their infrastructure improved greatly each visit and this time I noticed the younger generation smiles. No one ever used to smile because you were deemed to be clown like so I’m told.
Hey, did you figure out how to get the clamp off?

Well, Minnesota is pretty close to Canada. There's overlap...
I did get the clamp off. It was a weird pressure clamp, that required a pair of pliers and my wrist at a very awkward angle to remove! After that, I trimmed the hose back a couple inches, and put it back with two shiny, new hose clamps. It's still leaking. On the bright side, changing the gas filter and running a ton of fuel line cleaner through seems to have cleared the shaky problem up.
Of course, the clutch still doesn't disengage completely when the weather is warm (?!), making shifting a bit of a challenge. I've been double-clutching and trying to sync my RPM, so it's less of a problem. The antifreeze is the most pressing issue at the moment, but it will have to go in and I can't do that until after the 1st. Cést la vie.
Maybe I can fix it with duck tape. You can learn a lot about auto repair from the Red Green Show.
My old laptop screen also shattered. Apparently, the epoxy didn't hold, the hinge bent, and the pressure started cracks on the bottom that quickly radiated all across the screen! Replacing it became a priority, since school starts next week.
I'm kind of hoping things normalize, now. I could use some good luck! lol
Russia would be interesting to see. I heard that whistling in Russia is almost taboo. It's like you're too happy or something? What kind of changes have you seen in the infrastructure? he younger generation actually smiling is a good sign, I think.

I'm not sure about the whistling, but being happy = being an idiot. I'm glad that is changing. The changes are drastic as during the last collapse in the 90's nothing was maintained. Now it looked just as modern as any western city.
Oh, and duck tape is SO incredible. Did you know they actually make aviation duck tape? That stuff is pretty powerful lol

It was a bit of a surprise for most of us, but probably more so for the people who have been uprooted. I wonder if they were even given the option to defend their land.
When a greedy developer destroyed the property values in my parents' neighborhood, they tried to hide the city hall meetings and permit application proceedings. People found out, but the city council let him proceed. He ended up declaring bankruptcy, not because of lawsuits, but because his greed came back to bite him in the backside.

I think a lot of the time when things like that happen here, the city council are getting backhanders from the developers.
People can be legally forced to move but that's usually on a national level and is mostly to do with road building.

Here in the US, they use "eminent domain" to force people out for roads or infrastructure. In these situations, the government is supposed to purchase the homes at a fair price, but "fair" is a subjective term.
