Hello, Fellow Steemians,
Winter has let up a little and, even though classes have started, I had to get out and enjoy the not-so-freezing temperatures. We have actually had two days of above-freezing. The blanket of snow has already melted, for the most part, leaving mud and the remains of the more hearty plants that have managed to stay standing through weeks of brutal cold.

Despite the agreeable temperatures, I was alone at the State Park. Very alone, it turned out. The bison were nowhere to be seen, which isn't abnormal, but there were few birds and only one squirrel bothered to bless me out from his branch.

This particular trail through the Minneopa State Park follows the edge of the bluffs, with the bison range to the west. It gets great lighting in both morning and evening, as a result.

The evening light turned these burgundy-colored seed structures into a bright red. I'm not exactly sure what these are, but I'm sure someone with a green thumb and better luck with a field guide would be able to name it. The plant's stalks are almost like tree branches!

... and then it was time to head home to make supper and hop into an online class.
There is one last photo I'd like to share with you before ending this post. Earlier this morning, I went back to the Minneopa Falls and walked up to the frozen base. There were a couple places with open water further downstream, but the falls is a huge chunk of ice. It may have been a little dangerous, but only a little.

Very good photos. I love snow. But I do not like the end. Wheat and other plants look very nice. Nature gives me peace and serenity.

There are many nice places around here to be alone in nature. I particularly like another waterfall, Triple Falls, in the summer. It's difficult to get to in the winter.

Do you ever take lightning photos (morning and evening)? Nothing like a great lightning storm!

I spent about five days last summer trying to get a photo of this huge Herman the German monument, an about 5 stories tall metal statue, getting struck by lightning. Every storm failed me! Maybe this summer...
The local histórica society even helped me do a little research. He is grounded, and is the tallest structure in the area. He gets struck! Just not when I'm there...
I did get an interesting shot when living in South Dakota, of a purple sky with cloud-to-cloud lightning.

Winter walks can be the best. There is so much color that pops against the snow. Plus all the dormant stuff like grasses and some seed pods make interesting photos. Nicely done!

Thanks! We just got a few more inches of fresh snow, which made for some exciting driving!

We had temperatures in the 57F range today - crazy weather - it's either below zero double digits or this. And rain, lots and lots of rain so all the snow is almost gone .....tomorrow? We have a flash freeze alert - good thing I don't work anymore I can't imagine what the roads will be like.

Splendid winter images @fotosdenada I really enjoy gazing at those glorious, snowy shots as I am trying to cool down with the air conditioner on full blast with temps soaring outside in Brisbane (Australia) at the moment.

Haha, yeah... I have a cousin in Melbourne. Right now I could use some nice summer photos to look at!

Understandably so. Melbourne's temperatures fluctuate more than Brisbane's but it sure heats up this time of the year. I was there just before Christmas and it was comfortably warm without too much humidity.

Winter is truly magical!!! Being a tropical country, experiencing winter would be cool. :)

It has its moments. When we have -40º wind chills, as we did a couple weeks ago, I'd definitely prefer to be somewhere tropical!
