丽江古城是第二批被批准的中国历史文化名城之一，也是中国仅有的以整座古城申报世界文化遗产获得成功的两座古县城之一（另一座为山西平遥古城）。

The Old Town of Lijiang is one of the second batch of Chinese historical and cultural cities that have been approved. It is also one of the only two ancient county towns in China that have successfully declared the entire ancient city world cultural heritage (the other is the ancient city of Pingyao (平遥), Shanxi (山西)).
