2018 Travel Year Kicks Off In Santorini, Greece

In 2017 I managed to travel to 31 countries as a nomadic journalist. Nonetheless, 2018 could be my biggest and best year of travel yet.

To begin the travel year I embarked upon a long weekend winter getaway to the beautiful, famous and picturesque Greek island of Santorini.

Timing worked out well, and on Friday, I managed to catch the Santorini sunset on a clear, beautiful day from the ultra-popular corner of the island known as Oia (pronounced "iya").

Here is the first batch of photos. Lots more to come...

Have you heard of http://steemitworldmap.com/? You can add the location to your post and it might get you some more exposure. If you add this description ( !steemitworldmap 36.460416 lat 25.371037 long Santorini / Oia d3scr ) without the parentheses, to your post, it will put you on their map.

!steemitworldmap 36.460416 lat 25.371037 long Santorini / Oia d3scr is the code/tag that you would add into the text of your post which triggers that notification from @steemitworldmap. I'm not sure how you got that notification this time...I guess from my comment? So, for each post/new location, you go to the the map and get a new code. Here is one of my posts that I have used it on: https://steemit.com/travel/@samanthajbarnes/a-look-inside-shipka-memorial-church-shipka-bulgaria. Every time I include the code, I have gotten a couple of helpful upvotes from ausbitbank and choogirl (she is one of the contributors to the travelblog on steemitworldmap) and has been very generous with her Honorable Mentions of my posts. Hopefully, one day I will be featured.

P.S. Forgive me if I am re-explaining something you already understood. It took me a little bit to get with their program so I am projecting that onto you. ;)

Beautiful photos! I was lucky enough to watch the sunset at the same little corner in 2015! It is crazy how big of a crowd gathers there to watch, but for good reason. It is stunning.

Thank you! I am semi-strategically visiting in January, so I only have to deal with a reasonable sized crowd. I can imagine how big the crowd gets in July and August, and for that matter, this little corner might actually be worth skipping during the high season. Nonetheless, very beautiful indeed.
