All is as if the world did cease to exist. The city's monuments go unseen, its past unheard, and its culture slowly fading in the dismal sea.
― Nathan Reese Maher

Certainly, the terror of a deserted house swells in geometrical rather than arithmetical progression as houses multiply to form a city of stark desolation. The sight of such endless avenues of fishy-eyed vacancy and death, and the thought of such linked infinities of black, brooding compartments given over to cob-webs and memories and the conqueror worm, start up vestigial fears and aversions that not even the stoutest philosophy can disperse.
― H.P. Lovecraft, The Shadow Over Innsmouth

Reality seems valueless by comparison with the dreams of fevered imaginations; reality is therefore abandoned.
― Emile Durkheim

The sigh of History rises over ruins, not over landscapes, and in the Antilles there are few ruins to sigh over, apart from the ruins of sugar estates and abandoned forts.
― Derek Walcott

My whole life I've had the fear that I was going to be abandoned.

I like melancholy. I like to pretend that I'm alone in the world and I'm just sort of abandoned.

love this. i am fascinated by old buildings, the beauty hidden in their decay as nature takes hold.

Goodness! As I read your article about art and the anthropocene age this morning, I decided to follow you, and I also went back to some of your earlier articles, like this one, all the hollow-eyed houses. Profound! I hope you will still see this comment, although this article was published 4 days ago. It is really wonderful to read something more intellectual than so much of the fluff that we see.

If I were in Ryan Gosling, I would choose one of these houses to repair them, beuatiful photos

These remind me of a house I used to drive by sometimes when I lived in rural Colorado. They also remind me of the photos I've seen of houses in the area that was largely abandoned after Chernobyl. Powerful meditation in these pictures.

Yes these are very reminiscent of some post apocalyptic dystopian nightmare and the Chernobyl reference is definitely fitting. Thanks for commenting.

You do some of the more thought-provoking posts I've seen here, so I am following you as well.

Thank you and of course, I will return the favor :)
