Great Tit (Parus major)

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Ohhh... I want a better lens,

the bloody (75-300mm kit) lens breaks all my photos and as a result I need to over-edit everything and lose time wasting in front of a computer while I'd much rather use that time shooting these beautiful birds!

Anyway, here's a treat for you...

It's a...

Great tit

I've got more. But first I'll get some sleep.

Good night!

Is this a baby bird or an adult bird, but just small in nature?

Adult bird. Not too big.

OK, I c. I love the color of the bird.

Beautiful! It's a spectacular time of year for the nature, at least in our part of the world :D

good night and have a sweet dream : )

behind a bad lens there is a good editor, I think this image is very clean, very good quality. Congratulations champion!

I do not know how much you can do in the edition.
But in spite of everything it looks very good.
This bird is not seen in my city, it is very beautiful.

Well, even if your camera's lens is in these conditions, let me tell you, what made the photo look super good or was it the way you edited it? And also the bird is beautiful, I am your admirer @gamer00

It's mostly editing, given that the photo was one of the better ones I had shot. It's the chromatic aberration of the lens that annoys me the most.

It's not generally an issue when there isn't so much contrast in the photo, but as soon as there's a stark contrast in the photo, say a dark bird and a big bright background, the colour distortion gets distracting and pretty much unbearable. Add to that the fact that when shooting birds, they tend to be pretty far away unless I can get within a couple of meters (even the 300mm doesn't help if there's over 30 meters of distance) so I will have to crop the image to make the subject seem closer. The distortions will only magnify and eventually destroy the image quality.

In very close proximity the lens behaves reasonably well, but if I want to extend the reach I will end up having to crop and that just doesn't work with this lens.

The optimal solution would be to get a sharp and decently fast (maybe F4) 300mm, 400mm or 600mm lens and maybe an extender too, so I wouldn't have to crop so much and the quality wouldn't be as abhorrent as it is with the old 75-300mm. But those are somewhat expensive.

Well, you're right, I'm not a photographer, but if I know the basic principles to make a good photograph and I think the lens has a lot to do depending on what we're looking for, I personally recommend this lens, even if it's very expensive! EF lens 24-105mm f4 IS (Zoom) Price: $ 678.99

Pros:

  • Flexible zoom range
  • Sharp optics and solid image stabilization (three stops)
  • Fast and silent autofocus with ultrasonic motor
  • Resistant to moisture and dust

Cons:

  • Slowest point
  • Lens a bit heavy

I had thought about getting one of those lenses as I only have the 18-55mm. What about that lens is "breaking" your photos?

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

That doesn't sound good at all. Can you take it to a camera doctor and have him prescribe a pill for it? What would he write it on though? Oh, yes, sandpaper. (Because prescriptions are written on paper and glass is made of sand. It was a stretch. I apologize. I'll stop.) :P

No it was funny. :)

Glad that joke landed. Some do, some don't. That's how it goes with comedy.

Pretty bird, he gave you its best angle.

But this shot has come so nicely.

I think 400mm lens would work better with f/2 aperture.

Ths bird looks pretty. For the first time I can see a bird pic in your blog. That is really nice. Thank you.

That is the war cry of every photographer that I know!

One by one, I am trading up, but, it seems I am always short of the one that I need!

I had to Google it to make sure it was Great Tit before I screamed it out. ;)

@gamer00 - Sir in my country there is a similar type small bird we called as "House Sparrow"... This bird looks yellow color version of that bird Sir... Nice you decided to share this beautiful photography...

+W+

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

House sparrow is a different bird, we have it here as well. They are both passerine birds, but they belong to different families; Passeridae (sparrows), and Paridae (tits).

I looked into some 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses when I was looking for something better than an old kit lens, both canon and nikon make amazing ones, but the price tag of those is very off putting 😬

That's great photo. I don't understand how your lens broke your photos. Did it overexpose your photos?

It gives them some awful colour distortion called chromatic aberration, it absolutely spoils any otherwise good photo.

Thanks, Jaro.

It's lovely bird , and agreed with you, if you have better lens you capture it more than better . But this is also good
