Chasing The Light With A 1JZ-Powered 200SX - Hillcrest, South Africa

in photography •  6 years ago

Last week, on a rainy Friday morning, myself and @nelkeljdm headed up to an area of the world that neither of us are too familiar with - in order to shoot a rather unique car.

The car in question? A Nissan 200SX that's housing a 1JZ Toyota engine, as well as a gearbox from a Nissan 350Z. Quite the combo then. And by the way, any American will probably know this car as the 240SX.

While the majority of the morning was spent filming for a feature video (link below), I managed to squeeze a few photos inbetween, one of which being my favourite type of shot: a (fake) motion shot... and yes, there will be more photos up here soon.

How is this achieved? Well, since I don't have the resources or patience to get a proper car rig, it's all down to the magic of Photoshop and Lightroom. You see, I'll shoot the car in situ at the angle I want it, and then move the car out the way and take a standard photo of whatever else was in the foreground / background. After many hours of blending wizardry, the final result is pictured above.

Just for reference:

Would you be interested in seeing exactly how I make these types of photos? Let me know in the comments below and I'll record the whole process next time!

To end off with, make sure to watch the final feature below and let us know what you think.
