Namaste :)
I recently got asked quite a lot, what equipment I am using, so I decided to write about it. I love tech stuff and before I am getting any new things, I make sure that I watched every youtube review there is. It almost became a ritual. I actually really enjoy watching this stuff. I remember back in days when I was a kid, I loved to read through the advertisements of the nearby electronic stores. Things have not changed :). Ah, a good cup of coffee and a tech review? I am in.
I am into photography since years and just recently got into shooting videos. The number one priority for me is having light-weight equipment. I am travelling a lot and I want to be able to go trekking with my stuff and still produce great media.
So lets start!
Fuji XT-20
I got the XT20 a few months ago and from all the money I spend on tech stuff, this is easily the best value I ever got. I love everything about this camera. It is extremly small and lightweight but still offers you all the features of a full grown DSLR. Fuji has some amazing filters which you can apply to your JPEG in the camera. 90% of my pictures come out the way I want it and there is no need for me to take the RAW files to Lightroom. Apart from that there are some other really cool features:
- I can charge it with my Powerbank via USB
- There is a remote app so I can control the camera with my Iphone which is amazing
- It has focus peaking which makes the life with manual lenses so much easier
- It has a touchscreen which allows you to tap on it and set the focus point, cool!
Fuji XF 35mm F2 WR X-Mount
My allround lens, for the price, it has amazing build and picture quality, you cannot go wrong with this lens. Apart from that it also is really small and lightweight
Samyang 12mm F2 Fuji-X Mount
My choice for landscape photography, I shoot a lot of timelapse with this lens. It is great value for the money. There are way better wide angle lenses out there but nothing in my price-segment :) I can recommend this lens!
Helios-44-2 58mm F2
Helios is a well known, old russian lens. It is a manual lens and I got an adapter so I can work with it on the XT20, it is a fun lens with an impressive bokeh. I got mine for 40€, I think in terms of price/picture quality, this is a awesome choice. It is a lot of fun to shoot with.
DJI Mavic Pro
Only got it a month ago, the thing is a beast. So far, it works flawless and is super leightweight for a drone! You can fold it together and it has the size of a 1L water bottle. I got ND filters from Polar Pro, which is probably the most important part of this drone. If you have it, get those filters! They change everything.
Flow-Mow & UV-Filters
The Flow-Mow allows me to shoot moving timelapses. Over two hours, it will slowly turn itself by 360 degree. It is a expensive egg-timer, but it works pretty good. For all of my lenses, I got UV filters, just to protect the real lens. Those guys saved me a lot of money and I highly recommend to get a UV-Filters for all of your lenses.
Iphone 6s & 360Fly
No need to introduce the Iphone, it works with all my other gear, gets handy if you need some fast footage and overall is a great cellphone. The 360fly is VR-Camera which allows you to shoot 360 videos, I recently attached it to the Mavic and got it up in the Himalayans, still have to edit the footage, you will soon be able to see it :)
Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 32 Ohm
Last but not least, my headphones which I love very much. I am listening to a lot of music and the audio of those is stellar. When I got them a year ago, I experienced all of my favorite songs in a completly new manner. It would be the last thing I would give away. Those are amazing.
So this is it, hope I could get you some insight on what to buy next ;)
Hear you soon,
The 360Fly looks super interesting, will look into it. It would a be a great addition to our videos and pics on our blog.

Would I be able to mount the Helios on my micro 4/3 body? I am also quite interested in getting one of these flow-mow gadgets :)
As for the Samyang 12mm - I used to have it, and it's a fabulous lens

Hey there Dan :) Should be no problem if you get the right adapter, but due to the crop you will loose some of the "swirl" in the bokeh, same for me with APS/C, it is a full frame lens. What did you swap your 12mm Samyang for?

I swapped it for another Samyang - the 21mm f/1.4 because I thought that 12mm is a bit too wide for my taste. A few months later, I sold the 21mm, too as I bought Lumix and gave the Fuji to my ex.
By the way, I found a Russian Oly forum where people are discussing the Helios. There are plenty of images, and to me, the bokeh looks brilliant despite the x2 crop factor of the micro 4/3 sensor. Hmm

It all depends a little bit if you only want to go for photo or for video as well. I would take a look into a used Sony Alpha 6000 with a nice lens which suits what you want to shoot. I totally recommend getting a mirrorless, but thats my personal opinion, I really love the advantage in size and weight. The Fuji XT10 would be my second choice :) Hope to see some pictures soon!
