Strategy & Philosophy: During the winter months, the sun sets through the window or “keyhole” in the rock. One can delight in capturing shafts of light streaming through the rock from the side. Later on as the sun sets, one can shoot directly into the setting sun through the window, as I did in the next photograph. I arrived there a couple weeks before the Winter Solstice while driving on up to San Francisco, and thus it wasn’t that crowded at all. I have hear that it is a madhouse on the Winter Solstice, so try a week before or after for a bit for freedom in selecting compositions.
