Traveling At Aidu Quarry - Part 1

in photography •  5 years ago

At the start of the summer when I and my girlfriend traveled around in Estonia, our final destination was my girlfriend's country house. After we stayed there overnight I decided we should visit the Aidu quarry that is relatively nearby. It is located in Eastern Estonia not far from the town Jõhvi. I had never been there before so I was pretty excited about it. This quarry has been abandoned for two decades already and now mostly serves as a tourist attraction.
There are many things to do. For example, hiking numerous trails located there or kayaking on the long straight lake systems. I didn't have all day so we only spent a couple of hours on the location.

The first place we visited there is named Sipelgamägi. To translate this in English it is called an Ant mountain. It is the highest one in this quarry and offers some nice areal views of the surrounding areas.

Estonia is green right ? :D

As you can see, pine trees for some reason don't like this water. All the ones that are in the water are dried and dead. I think this because this water is too pure, there are no minerals in there and therefore not suitable for plants to absorb. I am not too sure how deep these lakes are.

This one is taken on low ground and there is a windfarm nearby so I did get them on the photo as well.

So here are some more shots taken in this exact area.

Next time I have a part two coming, where I go to another place in this quarry.
Stay tuned!
