Unguru Mansion Ruins

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

On Sunday I went on a car trip to west Estonia. On my way to the final destination, I did a quick stop to capture this old mansion. Unguru mansion was founded in 1523. At the start building was not that remarkable as the surrounding park that was claimed to have been one of the most beautiful parks in Estonia at the time.

In 1908 the mansion was left without an owner and started to dilapidate due to pillages already during world war 1. Local people and military destroyed the building step by step. Nothing from the park has preserved except one oak which was planted by Peter the first and he supposedly had his meal under the tree.

Today's owners have decided to preserve the building as a sightseeing place and take care of its surroundings.

This worn out photo may give you a glimpse how it once looked.DSC_0460.jpg
