A friend of great esteem and fellow "Steemer", introduced me to this park, which I leave here some notes and photographs taken.
The park dates back to 1750, when they began to plant the trees, existing there today. Most tree species were brought over from Holland at the time.
It was part of the Palace of Queluz, built by Queen Mary II, in 1747. The forest was mainly used by the nobility for hunting, walking and occasionally, for bullfights made in the center of the park, where today there is still a huge clay dirt circle.
The wall that surrounds the park, dates back to 1770 and is still the original. It is a fantastic place, considering it is in the middle of a suburban area, one of the most populous of Lisbon.
It is a perfect habitat for birds, which find there, an ideal space from the surrounding cities and the resulting pollution.
Enjoy!
