Visiting the former US “Candy Bomber” Airport Berlin Tempelhof

Today I visited the Airport Berlin Tempelhof which ceased operations in 2008 but has a unique history.

The following pictures shall show how to utilize a closed airport for the benefit of the citizens of Berlin.

A short overview of the “Airlift” history from 1948/1949 when the Russians closed all access points to West Berlin and the US Airforce flew in supplies via air cargo.

Due to the sheer size, they placed a container village for refugees right in the middle of the airport field

This airport has a unique history.

Btw, this airport was featured in Part 3 of Indiana Jones when they had to flee from Berlin with a Zeppelin (google it )
