Rescued a Turtle!

I found this little guy (or girl, not sure) on my way home yesterday. It was trying to cross the highway about 10 minutes from my house. I didn't want it to get squashed, so I loaded it up in my car and brought it home with me. I released it near the creek that runs behind my house (which is far away from any roads!).

I think this is a river cooter, (which is supposed to live here in north Alabama) but I wouldn't put money on my guess :P If anyone out there knows what kind of turtle this is specifically, let me know!

Here's a couple more pics I took:

Cool post!

I would say with reasonable confidence that it is a male! Those long claws are usually pretty recognizable in aquatic turtles; during mating season, males show their interest in females by tapping on their heads with their freakishly long claws. I haven't got a good video of that behavior yet, but maybe one day soon lol.

Cool! I didn't know how exactly to tell with turtles

Female turtles have a flat or convex bottom shell, whereas males have a concave one. It's quite logical of Mother Nature to design the males that way, if you think about it! :) Resteemed and followed!

Thank you for saving the turtles. Now many people have a hard heart and they don't care about other people's pain!
