The Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

Now, I don't really agree with that idea. I think the most wonderful time depends on a lot of things and given all the negative associations made with Christmas, both with this crazy consumerist culture and with religion, I don't know if Christmas is it.
I know it's a very lethargic time for me and given the heavy snow outside (not pictured), it's a time that only makes me want to stay in, listen to music, read and binge TV. A time for recharge, I call it.
Anyway, last week I went out to catch a poetry reading, but I didn't find any more room as the city was super-crowded with the pre-Christmas madness and I got there late. So instead, I spent the evening wandering the city centre and taking pictures of the beautiful Christmas lights (which I have a penchant for).

Oww Google just showed me a story about Bitcoin "surging 18%" - see, I'm doing something productive...

Having no one to actually celebrate it with, It's a bloody awful time of the year. It's just a matter of gritting my teeth every year and waiting for the damn ritual to be over.

It's also two days of the year when I can't go out for my morning coffee and the gym's shut.

However I do take some solace in a Boxing Day run, putting all those waddling walkers to shame, and come the 27th of December I'm one of the happiest people in the country, given that you can't comedown from something that effectively plays no part in your life!

It'll be over before you know it, clocks ticking, tick-tock tick-tock.... spring time soon!

i bought a little more BTC before that surge too, well LTC, it's the same thing effectively IMO.

It's just a grossly over-played holiday that has little meaning (be it sentimental or religious) for most people...:/

Why do you say it's the same thing?
Anyway, it's a good thing you bought in. Who knows when it might go back up? :)

It pretty much tracks it doesn't it? I just buy LTC as it's easier to transfer it from one exchange to other then buy BTC then Steem, BTC just seems to take forever to transfer from one place to t'other. My last attempt got delayed by 3 days. Thankfully steem actually tanked about 5% in that time so they did me a favour!

Me looking at the pictures: "Ha! I was there! :D"

I don't care much about Christmas either (except food), especially the consumerism side of it, which I've actually managed to avoid for the most part, until Stockholm. Wealthy people like to spend more, too, I guess.

Haha yes, I had a feeling you'd relate :P

I like the food too!

Wealthy people like to spend more, too, I guess.

And more uselessly as well. I was just noticing this in someone I know. Money not being a problem, they just go out and buy rando shit they have no real use for. Certainly not things they need. And the deeper this belief runs (that they are wealthy and thus have a certain social status) the more they spend.
Maybe traveling has helped you avoid this craziness, which is a good thing, I believe. Spending money you don't have on shit you don't need, as George Carlin put it.

George Carlin is the man! :D I haven't bought much useless shit for a while anyway, but it's been nice to dissociate myself from all the Christmas hurdle.

Ha! I knew you'd like him ;) That's the way to go, not buying shit. For me, being on Steem and meeting a lot of different views on money has really helped me break free of all the consumerist BS.

It is definitely a time for reflection! The snow and lights and fanfare mostly fuel me, but I also have my moody moments, thinking of childhood Christmases and singing with my family around the piano while my mother played.

Lovely photographs. I do think it is the best time of the year. From my Christian perspective firstly, and then all that is associated with this time of year. Business closes so that means annual leave, the children all on holiday, in South Africa it is summer so long days, sun and beaches, and the new year around the corner. Best of all, the family all come together and we share our blessings with others less fortunate. Thought I would just share my thoughts with you.

Christmas is a day off, a couple really because we have Boxing Day off, and food to me. We don't do Christmas gifts or go to church. It's really turned into a one big consumerism-fest really.

Still, it's good for photos huh? Wandering around with the camera is a great way to spend some time I think. I do it myself every now and then. Good pics.

I can't remember the last time I went to church for Christmas...and I'm glad , to be honest. I love the decorations and the mood, particularly since my little brother seems to be getting into the whole Christmas cheer and that makes me happy. But for many, it's just a ritual of exchanging useless crap. I'm not saying I haven't bought some presents, but a lot less than before. Being on Steemit has changed my perspective by quite a bit and I'm very pleased with that.

Indeed :) Sad it's so blasting cold, otherwise I'd do it more. Can't wait for spring to be able to go wander for hours :D Thank you!

Well, I'm glad you've bought some presents...I'm so excited to see what you got me...😁

Hmmm depends :P Have you been naughty or nice?

Let's roll with both...

Hmmm I'll have to think what the appropriate present for both naughty and nice people is. :P

It's a tough one isn't it...Maybe two presents would cover it more efficiently?
