I spotted this red hibiscus (gumamela in filipino) in our yard and I thought to share it with you guys. It's the first one to bloom so I took a shot. π
Trivia about Hibiscus:
The leaves are alternate, ovate to lanceolate, often with a toothed or lobed margin. The flowers are large, conspicuous, trumpet-shaped, with five or more petals, color from white to pink, red, orange, peach, yellow or purple, and from 4β18 cm broad.
In the Philippines, the gumamela is used by children as part of a bubble-making pastime by crushing the flowers and leaves until the sticky juices come out. Hollow papaya stalks are then dipped into this and used as straws for blowing bubbles. Together with soap, hibiscus juices produce more bubbles.
Different kinds of Hibiscus in Hibiscus species represent several nations such as Haiti, Solomon Islands, Hibiscus syriacus in South Korea, and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis in Malaysia.
Hibiscus is more useful than what you think it is. It can also be used in medicine, beverage and in landscaping of course.
