Astronomy Picture of the Day - 2018 August 3

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Friends

I love space and I will share each day a different photograph or video taken by NASA of our fascinating universe!

Central Lunar Eclipse

Reddened by scattered sunlight, the Moon in the center is passing through the center of Earth's dark umbral shadow in this July 27 lunar eclipse sequence. Left to right the three images are from the start, maximum, and end to 103 minutes of totality from the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century. The longest path the Moon can follow through Earth's shadow does cross the shadow's center, that's what makes such central lunar eclipses long ones. But July 27 was also the date of lunar apogee, and at the most distant part of its elliptical orbit the Moon moves slowest. For the previous lunar eclipse, last January 31, the Moon was near its orbital perigee. Passing just south of the Earth shadow central axis, totality lasted only 76 minutes. Coming up on January 21, 2019, a third consecutive total lunar eclipse will also be off center and find the Moon near perigee. Then totality will be a mere 62 minutes long.

You have not described anything about this picture and the picture is also not yours. Can you tell me the reason why are you boosting this? I am going to report it to steemcleaner.

@mahtabalam I don't understand your criticism towards @imdiana's post. Unless I don't fully grasp #steemit, there is nothing wrong with posting something from another platform or media, as long as you provide sufficient credit to the original authors. And that she clearly did both by hyperlinks and by stating it in bold letters.

Please enlighten me if I am missing something here

@cngrobler What did she do in this post? Just copied someone work and posted it here and sourced it.

This post really deserve $28? I don't think so. You posted someone work and sourced it doesn't mean that you did hard work for this.

Well @mahtabalam, I would both agree and disagree with you

She might not have done any journalistic work of going out and taking photos, and then sitting down to create an interesting and factual article about the content, so maybe zero marks for developing a story and producing fine photography

but..

she did take the initiative of going online, searching for really good content by some established author (whom I'm sure she admires and respects), and coming here to post it in a very neat and attractive way, using proper styling and even with a zooming feature on her pic, which you don't see often on Steemit. SO, I would suggest a nice 8 out of 10 for her efforts of providing factual content, making it nice to read and uplifting the original creator, and with that I cannot have a problem with.

But in my opinion, it is 100% wrong. If she described something about the post then it makes sense. But she did nothing. She should include some of her views.

In my opinion, reposting someone else's views or content is at the same time stating that you share the views. I suppose that is why all of your own blogs on steem are just resteemed posts of other Steemians.
But perhaps she could've been more participatory in the post, but that would be @imdiana's decision to make!

Alright, sir, If you think it's ok then I am not going to do anything. Just carry on.

Thank you @cngrobler for support & understanding.

@mahtabalam this post I posted for information purpose for the space and science lovers like me, and I also mention the original picture source in the post.
