Honduras
#teamhonduras
Guanaja (gwa-na'-'ha) is one of the three islands of the Bay Islands (to the East), located 70 Km to the North coast of Honduras, it is very known for having awesome mangroves and pines forests. It was for this reason that Christopher Columbus named the island "The pine island" when he arrived in 1502 to the north side of the island (Soldier Beach). Guanaja is also known for the beautiful beaches and reefs, perfect for diving, kite surfing and snorkel
February 25th, Guanaja was officially declared with the sobriquet “Green Island”. The name of Green Island comes from an environmental and ecological protection project driven by the municipality and many governmental and nongovernmental organizations of the island of Guanaja. The preservation of the ecosystem is vital for sustainable tourism, where economic, social and environmental balance walk together hand to hand.
The scenery is always serene. The people of Guanaja enjoy a very relaxed and laid back life.
Fishing has been the traditional industry of the people of Guanaja, but that is changing quickly. Depleted fishing banks and stricter regulations have put a strain in this traditional industry. Now Tourism has become the main industry with prospects to grow much more in the future.
This luxury cruise yacht was visiting for the day on this occasion.
I hope that you enjoyed discovering with me a bit more about this beautiful, untouched island.
