Dinkey Creek Series #1.

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Photos of the old Dinkey Creek saw mill and logging camp.

Logs were hoisted up into this chute using block and tackle.
The logs were cut using gravity, guide poles and brute force.

A conveyor belt would take the sawdust into the furnace.

The furnace would burn 24 hours a day non-stop.
The smoke and red glow could be seen for miles away.

Lucky families lived in shacks while others just lived in tents.

They had a few things in common though.
They were all tough hard working people.
They were poor. They were proud.

And just like the miners in their day, they sold their souls to the company store.
