Nighttime Party Photography

We recently had a celebration that my sister had planned for the more Celtic era. The celebrations are usually based on the seasons so we had to switch the dates around to make it right for the seasons here in Australia. We were celebrating Imbolc/candlemas. This is celebrating the coming of spring, new life and fire, I believe the fire is something to do with light and the sun.

The way we celebrated was having family and friends over for some dinner. We had it outside then lit a fire, candles and sparklers, having some fun.

I set up my tripod because I thought it would be a fun thing to take photos, creating light with sparklers.

With quite a few of these photos you can still see a bit of the background, which wasn't always the best however I couldn't really position elsewhere in the backyard.

The top two photos are taken with long exposure, using sparklers.

A sparkler which was took with fast shutter speed to catch the lights flying.

Following are two more taken using long exposure

There were a lot of fun lights and nice food it was definitely a fun night.

Here are some of the not so good photos which didn't make the cut.

This one did not focus which was frustrating as I was behind doing the light swirls with the camera on timer.

One by my sister not sure what's going on.
