As a continuation from my previous post, these are some things I would like to share with you which is something from a publication my friend wrote. It is titled: "Fifteen Important Truths" by D. Bird

Over the coming days, I would like to share these with you and hopefully these words would mean something to you as they did to me. 😊

He told me he was inspired to write this on his 60th birthday as a way to pass on his life and spiritual journey and experiences over the last 60 years to his 3 children.

Here goes:

I would like to share with you fifteen important truths that I have learnt over the years and endeavoured to apply in my life. I hope and pray that they will help and encourage you.

6. Be diligent and work hard.

God hates laziness. The work of the diligent will be blessed. Whatever your occupation is, you are making a valuable contribution to society. God has given you unique talents. Never compare yourself with others. It’s not the type of job that you do that matters, it’s how you do your job that God is interested in. Do your job well and God will bless what you do and you will not lack. (Prov 13:4; Eph 6:6-8; Col 3:23)

7. Make wise decisions and choices in your life.

Decisions come with consequences. Don’t just think about the short term consequences also consider the long term consequences. Think carefully, pray earnestly and seek advice from wise and godly people before making important decisions. Decisions determine where we end up. And often the consequences of our decisions cannot be reversed. (Prov 15:22; Prov 3:5-6)

8. Handle money wisely.

Don’t be stingy; neither be a spendthrift. Spend as little on yourself as possible and be generous to others. Our money, like everything else, is God’s. Avoid extravagant and unnecessary purchases and live within your means. Don’t covet what others have. This can lead to so many problems. Be content with what you have. Contentment is a great virtue in God’s eyes. (Matt 6: 19-21; 1Tim 6:6; Heb 13:5)

9. Look after your body.

It has been intricately and wonderfully made by God. God wants our bodies to be as healthy as possible. Do regular exercise. Twenty to thirty minutes of walking as regularly as possible is great for the body. Enjoy eating, but be careful what you eat and don’t overeat. Maintain a healthy weight. Thus many illnesses can be avoided. Get sufficient sleep. God wants us to take good care of our bodies so that we can live productively and fulfil his plan for our life. (Ps 139:14; 1Cor 6:19)

10. Don't live selfishly.

Be generous. Seek to bless others and you will be blessed in return. Water others and you will be watered. Jesus came to serve and not be served. Don’t wait for others to serve you. Rise up and serve them. Have the same attitude of Jesus who was prepared to do the most menial jobs. Follow His example and you will be richly blessed. (Prov 11:25; Matt 20:28; John 13:4-5)
