Paris Catacombs

For those who like a creepy tour the Paris Catacombs is a very good place :)

A little bit about the history of the Catacombs:

In 1785 a section of tunnels was destined to guard the bones of the cemeteries that already were crowded by the city. For years the bones were transferred overnight in a funeral procession covered by a black blanket and accompanied by priests chanting. In the beginning they were scattered in a disorderly manner, and later, Héricart de Thury, the Inspector of the Quarry, arranged to arrange the tunnels exactly to be accessible to visitors, and arranged the bones down in an orderly fashion, forming beautiful, aligned walls.
In the end, about 6 million dead were brought to the catacombs, but the route that is open today to visit is only 2 km, a very short part indeed of the whole extent.
