These are shots I captured this afternoon of a Green Anole Lizard climbing a tree. I was able to get multiple angles of it, including a few that focus on the intricacies of the dewlap, otherwise known as the throat fan.

All shots were taken using a Canon 80D with a 70 - 300mm lens.

The dewlap is present in male anoles and puffs out like the photos show for a few reasons. One can be a sign of danger, inflated as a warning to possible attackers.

It also protrudes when it is trying to find a female to mate with. Mating season started for the Green Anoles in the beginning of Spring time. It will last until the end of Summer here.

I was also able to get close shots without the dewlap inflated, with definition of it's scales visible.

I like its chin. I wish there were a lot of lizards where I live. So many bugs for them to eat, but a little too cold in winter.

Fantastic shots! Thanks for sharing. You have quite the array of wildlife on hand to get all these awesome shots! I like that you gave some info on the lizard as well. Awesome to be educated while viewing the great pictures!

Beautiful photographs, A very curious and special lizard... very showy dewlap.

Gorgeous creature ❤ So cool that the dewlap is orange in contrast with its bright green color.
